As professionals, educators and parents, we at ERCO support meaningful, high-quality school choices. For many children, public charter schools can offer a better fit of learning environment, individualized attention, and greater achievement.

 

Ohio requires that each community (charter) school be “sponsored,” which means each new charter school has to be approved for startup and consistently monitored by an independent  third party. The role of a sponsor is to ensure that students make academic progress and are protected by complete compliance with state and federal requirements. ERCO works closely with the governing boards, leaders and educators of schools we sponsor to provide resources and technical assistance that help them fulfill the mission we share: empowering and preparing children for successful, productive lives.

 

Since our founding as a not-for-profit organization in February 2005, ERCO has partnered with the Ohio Department of Education to assist schools, protect public interests, ensure accountability, and respect school autonomy.

 

ERCO has reviewed, assessed, and revised sponsorship policies and processes to align fully with national charter authorizer best practices, as well as Ohio’s changed accountability systems for community schools and authorizers.
