Updates from ODE regarding state budget, gifted education and PBIS recognition
Subject: Updates from Ohio Department of Education regarding state budget, gifted education and PBIS recognition
Governor DeWine today announced a reduction in state funding support for Ohio K-12 education as a result of state revenue losses related to the coronavirus pandemic. This was a very difficult decision and reflects the gravity of the situation for all Ohioans. Throughout this crisis, we’ve been committed to working together with the governor, the legislature and Ohio’s education community to provide as much flexibility, information and assistance as we can. We will maintain that commitment going forward. We realize the significance of the challenge that lies ahead, and have confidence that working together with Ohio's dedicated local administrators and educators we will get through this difficult time.
In addition, today, the Department has posted new information about how gifted education requirements and deadlines have been impacted by the coronavirus-related school-building closure.
Also, the Department recognizes districts and schools have many priorities to address during the ordered school-building closure; therefore, the deadline for districts to submit applications for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) recognition has been extended to Sept. 30, 2020.
