2020 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students
On December 20, 2019 all Ohio school districts received a secure email from the Accessible Technology and Accessible Educational Materials (AT&AEM) Center at OCALI containing the 2020 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students packet. The Ohio Department of Education, Office for Exceptional Children requests all Ohio districts register any attending student who is legally blind, including all eligible preschool, homebound, home schooled, or adult students.
The Federal Quota registration generates supplemental funds for registered students that the center administers to purchase accessible educational materials at the district’s request from the American Printing House for the Blind. It is critical to understand the role that accessible educational materials, such as audio, braille, digital, and large print textbooks or educational aids, play in the education of students with visual impairments.
Each registered student MUST have a current eye report (2017 or later) as well as a parent permission form on file in the student’s school district of attendance.
